Mother's Day Gift Ideas and What the American Families Plan May Mean For You

It’s the start of May, and pretty soon you’ll have hit the half year mark of 2021. Whattt! Does it seem like this year is going much faster than last year? It does for me.

Mother’s Day is next weekend and if you still need to send a gift to a mom, sister, grandmother, daughter or friend, consider empowering them by getting them a brand new copy of A Wealthy Girl: 7 Steps to Prosperity, Peace, and Personal Power. The books will get to where you need them to get to by next Sunday if you order it in the next few days on Amazon. From the feedback thus far, the book is changing lives and helping women claim their wealth. If you don’t believe me, check out the reviews on Amazon. I want that kind of life changing power for the women in your life! You can get more tips down below in the Wealthy Girl corner.

As the world begins to open back up more fully now that vaccinations are here, my hope for you is that you hold onto the good habits that you formed or reinstituted over the last year and leave the bad ones behind.

You have the power to obtain the kind of life you want, and perhaps start to dream again now that you’re spending more time outdoors, visiting with family and friends in-person, or trying to get a hold of a new job now that the economy is also getting back on its feet.

Here’s some tips that may help you achieve your dream life:

  • Considering taking a flight in the next 12 months? I’ve not booked a flight yet for vacation in the last year as we’ve driven most places and stayed still during COVID. You may be in the same boat. And, guess what? There are new upstart airlines, like Avelo, offering deals to lure passengers back to the airways. These airlines scooped up discounted airlines sidelined by the pandemic and obtained space at airports to get their operations off the ground. According to the WSJ article New Airlines Rise From the Pandemic, “40 airlines around the world have suspended or ceased operations since the start of last year as demand dwindled.” Better yet - are you investing in airline stocks with the expectation that these stocks will do well in the next few years.

  • Make sure you understand how the American Families Plan may affect you. After reading more about Biden’s $1.8 trillion plan, there are a few provisions that stick out to me. For instance, the plan says “yes” to national paid family and medical leave. Under the plan, workers would be eligible for partial employment assistance for three months so they can stay home with a child, rehabilitate from an illness, care for a loved one with a disability or deal with other emergencies. Biden is also proposing free prekindergarten for all three- and four-year-olds regardless of their families' incomes. To help pay for the proposal, Biden has also proposed to nearly double the capital gains tax to 39.6% for people earning more than $1 million a year. The current rate is 20%. So, keep an eye out on how this proposal moves through Congress! Check out this Forbes article for all the detailed provisions.

  • What are you investing in NOW? One of the best questions I’ve received on my book tour has been…”Charisse, if you had $100K, where would you invest it?” And, so, I pose that question to you as well. My short answer is: 60% in the stock market, 30% real estate, and 10% in a business owned by a family member or friend. What’s your answer?   Whether the number is $1,000 or $100,000, it’s important to have a plan of attack. Now more than ever, I want you to take advantage of the opportunities around you. For instance, one of the participants at one of my talks said that she’s been investing in technology stocks. Well, did you know that COVID-19 has catapulted tech stocks? Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Facebook, and Google parent Alphabet now make up 25% of the value of the S&P 500, or $8 trillion! It’s been a good time to be invested in tech. The WSJ article, “In Tech, There’s Regular-Big And There’s Pandemic Big” offers a snapshot of how these five companies have soared in the last year! We’ll have to see if the upswing continues.
